Museum of the Mountain Man Located in Pinedale, the Museum of the Mountain Man presents a visual and interpretive experience into the era of the mountain man, the fur trade, the Plains Indian, the Oregon Trail and the development of this region. It sponsors programs, living history events and workshops for both children and adults to further explore Wyoming settlement history. It is a big part of the annual Green River Rendezvous that commemorates the historical fur trade gatherings (2nd weekend in July). Come experience the life of the mountain man! 700 E Hennick St. ; Pinedale ; 307-367-4101 Historical Area Walking Tours Travel back in time by taking a historical walking tour and learn about the first local businesses and operations in Sublette County. Soak up the history of the buildings and establishments that are still in existence today. Stop by the Sublette County Visitor Center for tour guide pamphlets for Pinedale, Daniel, and Big Piney. Green River Valley Museum Located in Big Piney (38 miles south of Pinedale), the museum was built to preserve the history and culture of the Green River Valley. Come explore the past and present attractions of the area. Exhibits include the Old Big Piney Library building, the Halfway Post Office, the Burnham Building, the original jail cell, and much more! Call for hours, individual tours, or special exhibits. Admission by donation. Pinedale Aquatic Center Located in Pinedale, the PAC offers a variety of recreational activities for any age. Come check out the indoor water park, hot tub, swimming pool, shower facilities, climbing wall, fitness equipment & weights, racquetball courts, cardio equipment, and indoor track ; enjoy group fitness classes, child care, leisure and lap swimming, youth & adult sports, and much more! Enjoy their weight room, basketball courts, Kidzone, aerobics room, and much more. Come get moving! M-Th: 7am - 8pm; F: 7am-7pm Sat 12pm - 4pm; Sun: CLOSED 650 Piney Drive; Big Piney; 307-276-4071 Skyline / Fremont Lake Road Drive A scenic 34-mile round trip drive from Pinedale (gaining nearly 2100' in elevation) with opportunities to view Fremont Lake and Half Moon Lake, the CCC Ponds, wildlife, wildflowers, and spectacular panoramas of the Wind River Range. Along this route you can find a variety of hiking trail accesses, campsites, several scenic overlooks, Sandy Beach (on Fremont Lake), Elkhart Park, the entrance to the Bridger Wilderness, Lakeside Lodge, White Pine Ski Resort, and the Museum of the Mountain Man. Fremont Lake Rd. / Skyline Drive ; Pinedale Sommer Homestead Living Museum A 92-mile roundtrip drive from Pinedale, this route parallels the historically famous Green River for much of the way, with terrific wildlife viewing and photo opportunities. Plan a full day to appreciate all the sights; the last 15 miles of the route are dirt/gravel and may be rough and slow-going. Enjoy spectacular Green River Lakes and see one of the most iconic formations of the Winds, Squaretop Mountain. WY-352 ; Pinedale Daniel Fish Hatchery Started in 1918, The Daniel Fish Hatchery is home to the Colorado River Cutthroat Trout brood stock; annual production of Brook Trout, Brown Trout, Golden Trout, Kokanee Salmon, Lake Trout, Colorado River Cutthroat Trout, Splake, and Tiger Trout. Once these fish reach their desired size they are distributed all across Wyoming. Visitors welcome, stop in and learn about this incredible process. Open year-round ; 8am to 5pm daily. ***Also visit the Boulder Fish Hatchery 239 Pape Rd. ; Daniel ; 307-859-8252 Union Pass A full-day adventure for those with a high clearance or off- road vehicle. The 120+ mile round-trip drive takes you north over the Continental Divide to Dubois. Usually open from late June through September (depending on weather conditions). Wildflowers, wildlife, history and wonderful scenic views are the highlights of this mountain drive, which follows the route taken by the first Europeans to the area. WY-352 & FS600 ; Pinedale White Pine Resort Just ten miles from Pinedale, White Pine offers year-round recreational activities including downhill skiing & snowboarding, horseback adventures, downhill & cross-country mountain biking, scenic chairlift rides, hiking, camping and fishing. The Ski Area has 25 runs for Alpine skiing and snowboarding and is adjacent to 35K of free looping Nordic ski trails for all skill levels. Fortification Mountain rises to an elevation of 9,500 feet and offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. The lodge overlooks lifts & runs, and features food services, a bar, a ski school, rental shop and restrooms. Cabins are also available. 74 White Pine Rd ; Pinedale ; 307-367-6606 Soda Lake A short drive out of Pinedale leads to this popular fishing, camping and hiking destination. Soda Lake offers great brown & brook trout fishing, a boat ramp, restrooms and a beautiful nature trail to explore. Willow Lake Road; Pinedale CCC Ponds The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Ponds are located just below the outlet of Fremont Lake and are a series of ponds and marshes created for a fishing and wildlife observation area. They offer accessible walking paths, parking, bathroom facilities, benches, and interpretive signs. These trails also link to the paved walking/bike Pinedale Pathway that eventually reconnects with the Fremont Lake Road and back to town. Forest Road 749G ; Pinedale McDougal Gap / Greys River Road Enjoy the quiet beauty of the Wyoming Range on this 182 mile round-trip adventure just off of Hwy 189 near Daniel. You'll travel through ranching country on your way to McDougal Gap Road, the only road that crosses the Wyoming Range, and continue west to the town of Alpine. In the summer, you will find the perfect place to picnic, hike, camp, or fish along the way. The WY Range National Recreation Trail intersects this route, along with trail access to McDougal Peak and Triple Peak. During the winter there are groomed trails for snowmobilers! This road is gravel and is typically snow-free by late June.; be aware of possible rough terrain. Hwy 189; Daniel Boulder Lake Recreation Area Located just outside of Boulder (~11 miles south of Pinedale), this BLM recreational area provides endless opportunity and covers nearly 3 miles of the Boulder Lake shoreline. Boat launch access is located past the Stokes Crossing turn-off on the south side of the lake. The campground is located on the north side of the Boulder Lake Dam. Flicks N Pins Located in Big Piney (38 miles south of Pinedale), Flicks N' Pins Entertainment Center is a two screen theatre combined with a 14-lane bowling alley. Bring the whole family to enjoy a movie or a game of bowling. Concessions and bowling supply rentals available. 619 E 1st; Marbleton; 307-276-4060 Community Pathways Take a stroll around town! Each community has excellent paved bike path routes that trail in and around the area. Enjoy a walk, run, or bike ride as you take in the sights and sounds of Sublette County.
